Philosophy

PARKAID vision is to use state-of-the-art technology to improve the quality of daily life for people with disabilities, mainly focussing on Parkinson's disease (PD). To achieve this vision, PARKAID have develop INDIGO for patients for use alongside conventional treatment combinations of drug therapies, hospitalization, deep brain stimulation and physiotherapy techniques.

ParkAid have also developed ParkService, a prototype service for PWP. At the heart of ParkService is a telematics Internet link between a clinician and a person with PD at home. This service is one which breaks down the isolation that many people with PD experience, principally through difficulties with mobility. ParkService offers a generalised support service to the PWP through a live connection from their home to a clinician and also offline services, such as reminders to take medication and an easy means of objectively reporting their day-to-day condition. The potential of telematics to “bring the doctor into the person’s home” is very great, and particularly needed for PD. However the most prominent PD service that ParkService facilitates is the configuration of INDIGO for the individual during a telematic interaction with a PD specialist.
