PARKAID was founded in May 2003 in Rome to exploit the results
of the PARREHA
project (IST-1999-12552). The company is a consortium of:
These members are all engineering SMEs who were members of, or
played an active role in, the PARREHA IST project. The other members
of the original PARREHA consortium (the EU Joint Research Centre,
the National Technical University of Athens and Europark, a trans-European
organisation of people with Parkinson's disease) support PARKAID.
The company has a capitalisation of 100.000 € and it is a "Società
a Responsabilità limitata" (Limited) Company based in
Rome, Italy. IES Solutions Srl (IES) own approximately
46% of the company and European Technology Investments (ETI) own
approximately 7%, with the remaining ownership split approximately
equally between the other three shareholders. IES are responsible
for the daily running of PARKAID but capitalisation and strategic
decisions require agreement of at least 60% of the ownership which
can be achieved by IES and 1-2 other partners.
The PARKAID Managing Director is Dr. Delprato, IES CEO.
The initial market for PARKAID is Germany and therefore the established
sales and support staff are based there. Europark are contracted
to manage sales in Germany, using their strong links with the large
Parkinson's clinics, especially the Bad Nauheim clinic (the largest
in the EU).
PARKAID is negotiating a commercial agreement with a manufacturer
of wearable computers who donated equipment to PARREHA. In meetings
the PARKAID management has been presented with systems suitable
for a commercial PARKAID product. IES also have a manufacturing
capability sufficient to further customise available hardware in
sufficient numbers for the EU market.
A German healthcare company well positioned to provide distribution
and after-sales support has also been approached.
